Extensions of territorial boundaries in Persian Gulf
FCO 8/1342 1970 Jan 01-1970 Dec 31Description
This file contains correspondence and memoranda concerning the possible extension of territorial waters in the Gulf to 12 miles. It includes consideration of its implications for the territorial seas of all the Protected Gulf States, to islands such as Abu Musa, Sir Abu Nu'ayr, and the Tunb Islands, to a median line with Iran and to oil concessions, notably relating to Abu Dhabi Marine Areas Limited and Abu Dhabi Petroleum Company Limited. This became an issue after Sharjah expressed its wish to extend its territorial waters.
