This file relates to the export of arms to the Trucial States. It contains correspondence concerning:

  • Export licence applications for the sale of rifles and ammunition to Ajman; rifles, ammunition and rifle parts to Dubai; rifles and ammunition to Fujairah; machine guns, pistols, a revolver, gas masks, blank firing attachments, ammunition and aviation equipment to Abu Dhabi; shotguns for individual members of the Royal Fusiliers and the Coldstream Guards in Sharjah; rifles and ammunition to Ras Al Khaimah; and rifles and pistols to Umm Al Quwain
  • Applications for the sale of a helicopter and engines to Das Island
  • Applications for the sale of explosives to Costain Civil Engineering Limited and British Petroleum Company Limited
  • Unsuccessful attempts by HMG to reduce arms imports in the Trucial States and concern regarding the large numbers of high powered rifles entering the territories
  • Question of retroceding control over arms imports to Abu Dhabi and the question of inter-Trucial States legislation
