Dear Sir,

HYDROLOGICAL AND GROUNDNATER SURVEY

As a consequence of correspondence with you, and in
particular your letter 1422/64 dated July 20, 1964, we were
authorized to prepare a preliminary report on the possibility
of starting a hydrological and groundwater survey of the
Trucial States as part of the Development Scheme.

In consequence our survey party, which included
Mr.I.L. Ward C.B.E., B.E., M.I.C.E., M.I.W.E., and Mr.A. Rendell,
B.Sc., proceeded to the Trucial States on November 10th 1964,
and both had left for London by February 21st, 1965.

The main features of the Report may be summarised as
follows:
The proposed Water Resources Survey is planned to start
on 1st September, 1965, to run for two years, and there after to continue indefinitely at a reduced scale.

2.

The estimated cost of the Survey is:

Financial Year 1966/67 (provisional)45,000

(a) constructing a groundwater re-charge dam to utilise

the flood waters of Wadi Haremba east of Umm al Qaiwain
constructing a diversion dam on Wadi Semaini to direct
flood waters towards the western well field and there by to increase the effectiveness of natural ground water recharge;
extending and improving infiltration galleries
("falages" or "aflaj") in the mountains and building
sub-surface weirs in wadis to raise ground flow to
the surface.

As requested 12 copies of the Report are being supplied.

If there is any other way in which we can assist you we
shall be glad to do so.

Yours faithfully
