At present the Royal Air Force uses or

plans to use the airfield at Masirah: 
(i)

for staging Lightning aircraft and

their accompanying Victor tankers en route

to and from the Far East, both to rotate

the FEAF Lightning Squadron and to reinforce

the Far East theatre in any emergency;

(ii) as a deployment base for the six

nuclear role;

(iii) as a possible jumping-off point

for flights in connection with

plans in East and Southern Africa. These
plans include, for example, those for

evacuation and protection of British subjects

in former British East African territories,

for military assistance to Kenya in certain

circumstances and the introduction of

British forces by invitation into Rhodesie.
