Status of UK armed forces

This file concerns the legal status of the British armed forces and US Navy personnel in Bahrain in the event of a transfer of jurisdiction. It contains correspondence relating to:

• Exemptions from local law held by UK servicemen in Bahrain to be maintained after the transfer
• Title deeds and a hand drawn map to property owned or leased by the British military in Bahrain, in particular by the RAF at Muharraq and the Royal Navy at Jufair
• Right to a military presence in the country
• Status of other British nationals in Bahrain
• Possibility of the Bahrain State Police obtaining a search warrant to enter any property occupied by the forces
