This file relates to the recently established Sultan of Oman's Air Force (SOAF). It contains correspondence concerning:
- Inspection report [enclosed] of the airstrips at Bait Al Falaj and Firq and the road between Muttrah and Bait Al Falaj by the Limmer & Trinidad Lake Asphalt Company Limited and an estimate for carrying out surfacing work. These improvements were suggested to allow the RAF to use them in an emergency (59-60, 66)
- Cost of electricity and air-conditioning for Airwork Services Limited's hostel in Muscat (61, 63)
- Treasury approval for further expenditure on items including: a replacement Provost aircraft, the loan of a Pioneer aircraft, the loan of two pilots and arms and ammunition (62)
- Medical expenses for Flying Officer C W Byers, and others seconded from Britain (64)
- Temporary loan of a single engine Pioneer (65)
- Air Ministry's recommendation that a Provost aircraft be held in reserve (67)
- Report [enclosed] on the first three months in Oman by the Officer Commanding SOAF, Squadron Leader G B Atkinson, including a recommendation that the Provost strength be increased. It also contains comments on the report by Group Captain G C O Key of the RAF, Persian Gulf (68-69)
