This file contains correspondence relating to:

  • Agreement with Dubai Petroleum Company (DPC) (a subsidiary of Continental Oil Company) for the Dubai land concession. It includes the final text of the agreement; and the draft of a political agreement between HMG and DPC (21, 30-32)
  • Election of Mohammad Mahdi Al Tajir to the Board of Directors of DPC (26)
  • Oil concessions of John W Mecom in Sharjah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain. It includes: agreements for the assignment of half interests in the concessions to the Pure Oil Company and the drafting of political agreements for HMG's approval of these transfers; and copies of the original political agreements signed with Mecom (22, 39)
  • Ras Al Khaimah oil concession. It include copies of reports, produced by Dun & Bradstreet, on W L Burke and J E Lofland and the decision to terminate their concession; and an approach from John K Evans (23, 25, 29, 35-36)
  • Attempts to determine the location of disputed boundaries, including the boundary between Abu Dhabi and Oman (24, 34, 37); and the Trucial States seabed boundaries (28)
  • Correspondence regarding the question of whether HMG has made a declaration of sovereignty on the Trucial States Rulers' behalf over offshore areas. It contains copies of seabed proclamations for Kuwait, Ras Al Khaimah, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Umm Al Quwain, Dubai, Bahrain, Ajman and Sharjah, produced in June 1949, along with a copy of a telegram explaining the background to these proclamations (27)
  • Protest from Saudi Arabia about the drilling being carried out by Abu Dhabi Petroleum Company (ADPC) near the Abu Dhabi-Saudi border. It includes a map showing the sites where drilling has taken place (33, 38, 40)
