This file concerns the defence expenditure review undertaken by the Treasury in December 1967. In the wake of economic crisis and the devaluation of the pound in November 1967, HMG intends to undertake drastic spending cuts across the whole framework of government, as a result of which the decision to withdraw from Malaysia, Singapore and the Gulf is taken.
