This file relates to the proposed visit of the Minister for Public Building and Works Reginald Ernest Prentice MP to the Middle East. It contains correspondence concerning:
- Itinerary and proposed dates of Prentice’s visits to Aden, Salalah, Masirah, Sharjah, Bahrain and Cyprus, with the final trip likely to take place between 19 June to 3 July 1967
- Reasons for the visit including, the impending withdrawal from Aden and the build-up of forces in the Gulf
- Possibility of the Minister calling upon the Sultan of Muscat and Oman Saeed Bin Taimur, and the Rulers of Sharjah and Dubai; and a discussion on the etiquette required for lunch with the Sultan
- Briefs for the Minister on the locations to be visited, the general situation and the personalities
- Cancellation of the visit in light of the Arab-Israeli conflict and anti-British sentiment in Sharjah and Bahrain
