Correspondence between Consul and Sultan of Muscat and Imam

This file contains correspondence between the Consul General in Muscat F C L Chauncy, the Imam of Oman Mohammad Bin Abdulla Al Khalili and the Sultan of Muscat and Oman Saeed Bin Taimur. It includes:

• Letter from the Imam to Chauncy about an arms permit and the issue of Omani travel documents; and a letter from Chauncy forwarding this correspondence to the Sultan and his response
• Discussion between Chauncy and C J Pelly that this constitutes an effort on the part of the Imam to establish direct relations with HMG and break away from the jurisdiction of the Sultan
• Discussion over whether the Imam and other Omanis will approach the Political Officer in the Trucial Coast in a similar manner; and a report that the Ruler of Sharjah Sheikh Saqr Bin Sultan Al Qasimi has received communication from the Imam expressing a desire for closer relations
