This file concerns plans for Trucial States policing following British withdrawal. It contains correspondence and records of meetings on:

  • Plans for assistance to be given to the police and special branches in the northern Trucial States after 1971, including the build up, training, and supply of equipment to local police forces, and in particular their intelligence and security branches
  • The estimated expenditure for the programme of assistance proposed and the question of obtaining adequate funds, including approaches to the Treasury and the Overseas Development Administration, and the contributions to be made by the Trucial States Rulers
  • The agreement of the Trucial States Rulers to coordinate the activities of their police and special branches against possible subversive activity, and the formation of a joint police committee
  • The recruitment of suitable staff to lead the proposed police organisation
