Implementation of policy of UK withdrawal from Persian Gulf

This file concerns preparations for the British withdrawal from the Gulf. It contains correspondence and records of meetings on:

• Matters to be resolved prior to withdrawal, along with charts and checklists of action to be taken, including: the retrocession of legislation; civil aviation; the resolving of outstanding cases in the law courts; the establishment of relationships with international organisations such as the International Monetary Fund and accession to international agreements such as the Geneva Convention; diplomatic and consular immunity
• The withdrawal from Bahrain, which is due to take place earlier than in the rest of the Gulf
• Drafts of the Bahrain (Revoking) Order, 1971, the Qatar (Revoking) Order, 1971, and the Trucial States (Revoking) Order, 1971, by which British jurisdiction in these territories will be ended
