This file contains 12 copies of the Royal Engineers' survey notes on the astronomical fixations, observed in March 1964 by 13 Field Survey Squadron, in the vicinity of the frontier between Abu Dhabi and the Sultanate of Oman. It contains correspondence concerning:

  • A UAE request for aerial maps of the area which falls between Abu Dhabi and Oman
  • The delineation of the boundary between Ras Al Khaimah and Oman
  • The importance of sketch maps of the Trucial States, made by J F Walker, to the present attempts of the UAE Government to define its internal frontiers and its frontier with Oman

This file also contains correspondence relating to:

  • Concern in Muscat about the threats the UAE poses to the Sultanate, such as the possibility of the federation collapsing, its security capabilities, links between the Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah Sheikh Saqr Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi and Iraq, and the attitude of its younger generation of Sheikhs
  • The arrest of British subject Nicholas Ruffle after the interception, in Sharjah, of an Indian ship carrying armaments
  • The Omani reaction to two executions in the UAE, including the execution of an Omani found guilty of child murder
  • Doubts about a visit to Oman by UAE President Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan because of the death of the Ruler of Ajman Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi
  • Omani speculation about the reason Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Al Gaddafi visited the UAE
