Borders between Oman and the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (PDRY) and between Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE)

This file concerns Oman’s borders with the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen (PDRY) and the UAE. It contains correspondence relating to:

• Requests to HMG from the PDRY, the UAE, and Oman for documents, maps, photographs and information for use in boundary negotiations
• Reports on the Oman-PDRY and Oman-UAE boundary negotiations
• A document purportedly containing a 1960 agreement between a representative of the Sultan of Muscat and Oman Saeed Bin Taimur and the Sultan of Mahra and Socotra Isa Bin Ali Bin Affrar, which forms the basis of the PDRY’s border claim (in Arabic)
• A summary of the genesis of the Oman-PDRY boundary from 1908 to 1965
• The delivery of Soviet helicopters to the PDRY, increasing its strategic capabilities in case of border clashes.
