This file relates to donations from Saudi Arabia for UK charities. It contains correspondence concerning:

  • The MacIntyre Development Trust's attempts to follow-up on a donation promised by the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Greece Abdulla Al Malhoog, with the help of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, which ultimately proves unsuccessful. It also includes MacIntyre's annual review for 1984
  • The attempts by the University of Oxford to look for funding for its Assyriology department in Saudi Arabia
  • The Disaster Relief Committee's representation of Oxfam and Save the Children, which have decided not to accept a donation from the Al Fassi family because of the conditions attached to it
  • The request by the Band Aid Trust for the discounted use of Jeddah's port to distribute supplies to alleviate the famine in East Africa
