This file concerns responses in the Gulf to the Arab-Israeli conflict. It contains correspondence on:

  • A request from the Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum for HMG to provide a confidential account of what they believe to be the underlying causes of the present Arab-Israeli confrontation
  • Telegrams sent to HMG by the Rulers of Dubai, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman following the meeting of the Trucial States Council on 6 June 1967, requesting that HMG remain neutral during the current war between Israel and the neighbouring Arab States
  • Reports of anti-British protests in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and concerns for the safety of British subjects
  • Advice to the Ruler of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan not to send a letters of support for the Arab cause to the Arab heads of State, as it might lead to demands for financial contributions and action against British interests
  • Reports from the Commander of the Trucial Oman Scouts (TOS) regarding resignations from the TOS and the bad feeling displayed towards British officers

  • A translation of the text of the telegram sent by Sheikh Zayed to the heads of Arab States
  • A report on the effects in the Gulf of the recent Arab-Israeli crisis, and the lessons to be learned
