This file contains correspondence relating to:
- Revision of anti-smuggling procedures, including the different instructions for patrols dealing with dhows from: Bahrain, Qatar, the Trucial States, Kuwait, Muscat and Iraq; India, Pakistan and Aden; Saudi Arabia; and Iran
- Special instructions to HM Ships patrolling in certain agreed areas within 12 miles of the Iranian coast or major islands, after negotiations with the Iranian authorities, including codenames of areas and a short note about the Iranian Maritime Gendarmerie Service
- Concern about the Sultan of Muscat and Oman's foreign relations if Indian and Pakistani dhows are escorted to Muscat and handed over to the Sultan's Armed Forces
- Anti-smuggling cooperation and discussions involving the Commander of the Iranian Navy Admiral Farajullah Rasa'i and the new Iranian Foreign Minister Ardeshir Zahedi regarding clearance for Royal Navy vessels to enter Iranian claimed waters
