7271/51 Political Agency, Kuwait. 10th February, 1951. Dear sir Rupert, The Ruler called on me this morning about the Fao date gardens. He mentioned this to me in conversation a week or so ago and subsequently sent me a letter he had received from Shaikh Muhammad al Sabah in Basra from which it appears that according to the judgment of the Court of Cassation (with which the British President dis agreed) has virtually deprived the Sabah family of all these lands. 2. The translation is taking a long time and is not ready for inclusion in this note. As you will imagine the Ruler did not hide from me his feelings on the matter. The Sabah family has been robbed of the produce of these lands for years and now is apparently to be robbed of the lands them selves. The Ruler expects His Majesty's Government to intervene effectively on his behalf and a part from undertaking that I would represent the matter I was at a loss to know what to say to him. The Sabah lawyer in Baghdad Nasrat al Farisi has doubtless informed our Embassy there. 3. I will send the translation by first opportunity. Yours sincerely, K... Jakins.
