- 1 س AREA NO. 4: KHATT, HABHAB and QALLIDI MOUNTAINS In this area (a) Muscat claims Khatt and the Mountains to the East of it. (See Muscati envoy's claim 1951under "Shaam", and Muscat complaint ofQawasim encroachment in Habus territory nearKhatt.) (b) Fujairah claims these mountains of theQallidi range occupied by Sharqiyin and thevillage of Habhab to the south of Khatt. (c) Ras al Khaimah claims the whole area.Khatt Lorimer,V.2, p.943. Lorimer lists Khatt as part of the Jiri plainunder Ras al Khaimah adminis tration, and says of theboundary between Ruus al Jebel and the areas dominatedby the Sharqiyin and the Jawasim: - Lorimer,V.2, p.1604. The inland boundary of Ruus al Jebel betweenDibba and Ras Shaam has not been determined; butthe route which runs from Dibba by Khatt to Rasal Khaimah town is regarded as the (political)boundary between the country of the Shihuh on thenorth and that of the Sharqiyin and other tribeson the south." It would appear that Khatt itself is outside theShihuh or Habus sphere of influence. Mr. Codrai ofP.D. (T.C.) Ltd. has stated that the Habus region endsat Khatt while Shaikh Saqr, Ruler of Ras al Khaimah, declares that the town is exclusive to the Habus andpays him zakat. In this his retainers, Sail binRashid al Habusi and Obaid bin Salim al Ashari supporthim. The inhabitants of Khatt do not includeSharqiyin and the Ruler of Fujairah supports Ras alKhaimah's claim to Khatt. From Lorimer's declarationthat the Khatt springs are overlooked by a tower (alSalamah) built by the Shaikh of Sharjah, it may bededuced that the town has been Qawasim territory formany years, Habhab, Lisaili, and Qallidi Mountains Sharjah letter If the notes of the Residency Agent in 1937 and. No.c/599 the correspondence of the Political Officer in 194432/2 of 8.4.4 and 1946 are to be believed it would appear that thisBahrain Agency area was under the de facto control of the Ruler offile 22/23 of Fujairah during those years. Mr. Codrai of1946. F.29. P.D.T.C.) Ltd. writes of this area: "This part is inhabited by the Sharqiyin tribe which is the onlyDO/DB/P.0.A) tribe in the Fujairah principality, the whole of which952 of 23.11.52. is claimed by Mohammed bin Hamed. However, the Ruler Of Ras al Khaimah has a written agreement with theSharqiyin representative (Shaikh Rashid, Wali ofHabhab) who lives at Habhab and collects date and other taxes from some of the Sharqiyin." The writtenAppendix J, agreement of the Wali is shown in Appendix J10 and9 and 10. another letter in the same Appendix shows that he,Rashid bin Abdullah, supports the Ruler of Ras alKhaimah's claim to the full. As a semi-independentShaikh, as was the Wali of Rams in the past, he hasevery right to take sides, /Mr. Codrai
