This file relates to postal services in the Trucial States. It contains correspondence on:

  • Handover of administrative and financial responsibility of the Dubai Post Office from the General Post Office (GPO) to the government of Dubai, on 15 June 1963. The GPO is uneasy about sponsoring Dubai's inclusion in the Universal Postal Union (UPU) (1, 3, 4-6, 9)
  • Opening of the new Abu Dhabi Post Office (2)
  • Abdul Rahman Condé's offer to open a Ras Al Khaimah Post Office, the reaction of the Ruler Sheikh Saqr Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, GPO and British scepticism and the question of UPU representation. It includes a draft agreement between the Ruler and Condé's company, Middle East Stamps Incorporated (7, 12-13)

  • Postponement of the Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah signing any agreement with Middle East Stamps, Incorporated until final judgement in a fraud case involving its directors, including Fouad Antoun who was sent to prison (16)
  • Offer to from Baroody Stamp Company Limited, the company that runs the Dubai Post Office, to the Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah (17)
  • Agreement with UPU that the UK should represent Dubai, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah, and that Qatar should continue to belong to the UPU (18)
