Mr. Brenchley said that he would have to look into thisquestion. He could not give a precise answer straight-away.He asked whether the Iranian delegation understood that Dubaicame between Abu Dhabi and Sharjah Abu Musa affected Dubai'sContinental Shelf. Commander Beazley explained that in theunlikely event of Abu Musa's becoming Iranian, it would affectChe Dubai Continental Shelf. It was therefore impossible tosettle the Median Iine with Dubai at this stage. This was alogical reason which the Iranian delegation could give forconfining the Agreement to Qatar and Abu Dhabi. Dr. Naficysaid that he had asked at the first meeting where each so-calledstate began and ended. This information was on no publishedmap in the world. Mr. Brenchley agreed that this was true,It was not relevant however if they were to discuss the wholeMedian Line. He repeated that it was not possible to fix thewhole of Dubai's seabed boundary because of Abu Musa. Hedemonstrated this on the Chart. Mr. Teimur suggested that itwould be easy to persuade the Ruler of Dubai that Sirri wasIranian, since it did not matter to him any way. Mr. Brenchleydemurred. This was untrue. The Ruler of Dubai consideredhimself to be a good Arab, Mr. Teimur asked where the territoryof Qatar ended. Commander Beazley explained that it was notpossible to say precisely. Mr. Teimur asked for a chance toconsider overnight the British side's proposal that the Agreementshould be confined to Qatar only.

The meeting was adjourned at 5.30 p.m.
