11th January 1858.Reca 18th January 1858.A.C. Maritime tranquillity thank God, is complete. In respect to the land,however, Mahomed bin Manay, Chief of Aboo Heyle, having consulted with hisbrother, Eylau, on the subject of an attack upon some members of the Mazareetribe, the pair of them proceeded with a force of 150 men, and attacked a placecalled Khawāneej, killing in the assault three men, besides one of the MazareeChiefs, called Faris ibn Alai. They further wounded two women, of whom onehas since died. The booty they realised consisted of 30 riding camels, 2 horses, anda quantity of house furniture. ...2. The marauders returned to Aboo Heyle the same night.3. When Sheikh Saeed bin Butye (Debaye Chief) heard of the above, he sentword to Sheikh Mahomed bin Suggur (Sharga Chief) that a compact [as he knew]existed between them regarding their respective dependents, and that 4 persons,who were parties to the compact, had been slain. Sheikh Mahomed bin Sugguraddressed a letter to Sheikh* Sultan bin Suggur who, on the 22nd Instant (9th Jan/58),came over to Sharga. Letters were exchanged between the Joasmee and DebayeChiefs. The former, however, consented not to restore the property that had beenplundered, and the latter, finding his mediatory efforts unsuccessful, summonedthe Bedouins (to his assistance). Sheikh Zayid bin Khuteefa (Beniyas Chief),too, sent for the Bedouins in his neighbourhood, such as those who were presentin Aboothabee, members of the Monasir and Mazaree tribes, and called upon themto repair to Sharga overland, looking upon Debaye, however, as their HeadQuarters. ...4. According to the intelligence that has reached me, Sheikh Abdool Rahmonbin Syf (Himreeah Chief) is on the side of Sheikh Saeed bin Butye against Sharga. ...5. The Sheikh of Amulgavine, it is not known, whose side he espouses.6. The people of Aboo Heyle, who are ever seeking to create disturbances, arethe cause of this disturbance. ...
