Political relations between Saudi Arabia and UK. Code BS file 1051 (papers 45 to 56), 1959

This file relates to efforts to restore diplomatic relations between Britain and Saudi Arabia. It contains correspondence concerning: P Dixon's meeting with UN Secretary General Dag Hammarskjöld. The latter accepts Britain's basic position for the restoration of relations, but is reluctant to identify himself with the British position prematurely (45) Revised draft of Hammarskjöld's reply to Prince Faisal Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud. HMG agrees to the text, but asks for a delay in its despatch until the Sultan of Muscat and the Ruler of Abu Dhabi are informed of the proposals.

It contains correspondence relating to: Kuwait's insistence on a demarcation of the frontier as a condition of any agreement for an oil pipeline from Basra across Kuwait; the Ruler of Kuwait's appeal to HMG to resolve the boundary issue; and discussions about how to bring about further talks between the two sides.
