This file relates to a formal investigation into the sinking of MV Dara, owned by the British India Steam Navigation Company Limited. More than 200 people died in the incident on 8-9 April 1961 near Dubai.

Negotiations between Sultan of Muscat and Pakistan for lease or sale of Gwadur [Gwadar], 1955

This file contains correspondence relating to: History of how the proposed Gwadur [Gwadar] lease came about and the question of oil rights. It also contains a draft lease as agreed with Pakistan (1) The Sultan of Muscat and Oman Saeed Bin Taimur's agreement in principle to the idea of a lease and his wish that HMG negotiate on his behalf. Britain does not want to get directly involved (2-3) Further points made by the Sultan in discussion of the draft lease agreement regarding the questions of oil, duration, payment in sterling and ratification.
