Zanzibar subsidy, 1967-1968

This file concerns the Zanzibar Subsidy, which had been paid annually by the colonial Government of India on behalf of the Sultan of Zanzibar (a former Omani colony) to the Sultan of Muscat and Oman until India's independence in 1947, and is now being paid by the Foreign Office despite the extinction of the Sultanate of Zanzibar in 1964. It contains correspondence relating to reducing or terminating the Zanzibar Subsidy now that the Sultanate is generating revenue from oil and the damage this may cause to relations with the Sultan Saeed Bin Taimur.
