This file contains correspondence relating to the US proposal to open a consular office in Dubai and rumours that the Arab League might also open an office. The British Embassy in Washington DC suggests Britain should support the US's request before jurisdiction is retroceded to the local Rulers; a statement that the arrival of a US Consul would hinder Britain's aim of preventing the Arab League, the United Arab Republic and Iraq from establishing consular offices (1-4).
