This file relates to the UK’s foreign policy in the Gulf, particularly regarding the modernisation and development of the Gulf States. It contains: Progress reports on the modernisation of HMG’s relations with the Gulf States, namely Bahrain, Qatar, the Trucial States, and Muscat and Oman, from January 1966, 1967 and 1968. They include sections on: defence and external relations, jurisdiction, immigration control, issuing of passports, oil and other concessions, arms imports, control of drugs and liquor, air traffic control, and exchange control.
