Frontier disputes between Qatar and Saudi Arabia
FCO 8/1474 1970 Jan 01-1970 Dec 31Description
This file relates to the border between Qatar and Saudi Arabia. It contains correspondence concerning:
- The insistence of the Saudi Government that traffic from Qatar must come via a new road and cannot cross at unguarded points
- The Ruler of Qatar Sheikh Ahmad Bin Ali Al Thani’s wish to see the Ruler of Saudi Arabia King Faisal Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud over the border, and possible imposition of similar measures on Saudi traffic
- A note on the history of the dispute and border negotiations between Qatar and Saudi Arabia
- The Saudi enquiry whether HMG is preventing the Qataris from ratifying the border. It includes HMG’s questions as to why the Saudis may be raising this, largely believed to be because of its border dispute with the Ruler of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Qatar’s recent independence
- The opinion of Sheikh Ahmad that Sheikh Zayed will have to give up areas around the Sabkha Matti and Odaid [Khawr Al Udayd].
