This file relates to Anglo-Saudi talks after the British mission to Riyadh led by Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the Foreign Office Douglas Dodds-Parker, which ended on 1 May 1956. It contains correspondence concerning: Ambassador R W Parkes's discussion with Prince Faisal Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud on a proposed agenda for Anglo-Saudi talks, including the latter's ultimatum regarding: the withdrawal of British troops from disputed areas; repatriation of refugees; maintenance of law and order; and supervision of the area by a neutral administration.

This file relates to negotiations in London between HMG and the Sultan of Muscat and Oman Saeed Bin Taimur regarding the stability of Oman. It contains correspondence concerning: J F Walker’s conversation with the Sultan (27) A R Walmsley’s conversation with the US Embassy about the negotiations (28) Draft ‘Agreed Minute’ between Britain and the Sultan on the measures which should be taken to: counter the short-term military threat of a revival of the rebellion; and establish the Sultan’s long-term authority. In a meeting with A R Walmsley, the Sultan objected to almost all of it.
