Mineral deposits in Muscat and Oman, 1957

This file contains correspondence relating to: Colonel G de Gaury's efforts to interest British mining companies in the exploitation of minerals, notably copper, in Muscat, particularly Masirah Island. It also discusses the desirability of greater American interest in Muscat to offset the Saudi slant of US policy (1) Sultan Saeed Bin Taimur's refusal to renew the expiring two-year concession granted to de Gaury (2) Wendell Phillips' approach to de Gaury, possibly to arrange a deal.
