Appendix B to Annex I The Points still Disputed on the Muscat - Abu Dhabi Frontier in the Buraimi Area (1) Qurun Jiham. The original agreement stated that the line runs south west to Thugbat al Maazami which is between Sa'arah and Hili and to the south of Qurun Jihar". As Your Highness will recall, it has proved impossible to determine which thiqbah is intended, as there are so many on this falaj which meet the description. Any attempt at erecting markers has led to disputes. It seems best, therefore, to omit all reference to the thiqbah in the revised agreement. This will not affect the projection of the frontier, which now runs south west, as intended, from Falaj Umm Shatarain to the south of Qurun Jiham. This latter point, as Your Highness is aware, has given more trouble than any other. Unfortunately, Shaikh Sakher bin Hamad, who visited Buraimi last summer in an attempt to solve this dispute, could not recall the exact site agreed upon at the time of Mr. Walker's investigations. I am satisfied, however, that the present position of the markers, which have been erected on the southernmost qurn of this feature, is the one intended, and Mr. Walker confirms this. From this point the line follows the agreement by running west to Aidan bin Khanfur. If the qurn selected were to the north, as the Na'im claim is correct, the line would then run south-west, which is contrary to the agreement. (2) Raddat Sababah. The agreement states that the line runs from Jabal Zarrub by way of the centre of Raddat Sababah. It is clear to me that this was intended to mean the centre of the plain between Jabal Malaqah and Jabal Sababah, although the term raddah means the point where a mountain changes direction (yurada). I have, therefore, slightly changed the wording of the agreement here. (3) Tawi Awiyir. The position of this well has been established beyond doubt, and the line should pass through the centre of it. I do not accept the Najadat claim to territory east of it. (4) Thiqbat Sa'a. Here again, the difficulty is to determine the thiqbah intended in the agreement. It would appear that this is the open thiqbah used for drawing water and not that at the head of the falai, 40 yards away, as claimed by Shaikh Zaid.
