Annex 4. Khatam al Milaha - Ain al Samah - Aswad Area Although Khatam al Milaha has been claimed by the previous Ruler of Sharjah, there is no doubt in my mind that it is the traditional frontier, and that the line runs down the crest of this feature to Your Highness's Customs Post. The Ruler of Fujairah's frontier with the Sultanate in this area extends, as Your Highness knows, from Qurn Manzilah near Khatam al Milaha to Qurn Sulaiman near Aswad, leaving the Wahalah area in Fujairah territory. Since the small area of Ain al Samah is claimed by Your Highness and Shaikh Muhammad bin Hamad al Sharqi, Ruler of Fujairah, I do not feel able to make any recommendations here, especially since, on my recent visit, I found only one resident. Shaikh Muhammad, who undoubtedly owns the palm garden at Ain al Samah, maintains that his ancestors have been in occupation of this area for more than 200 years and sold palms to the Bani Jabir, who are, of course, a Sultanate tribe. On the other hand, Makhaitnah, near where Your Highness maintains a small post, appears to have been in Sultanate territory for many years. It seems best, therefore, to leave the short stretch of line, roughly one and a half miles long, between Khatam al Milaha and Qurn Manzilah undefined, as at present. Your Highness accepts Ain al Ghamur as Sharjah territory, and I confirm that Shaikh Khalid bin Muhammad is in effective control of it. In regard to the frontier between the Sultanate of Muscat and Oman and Ras al Khaimah in the Aswad area, here again there are conflicting claims. It seems reasonable, however - although Shaikh Sagr bin Muhammad does not accept this - to regard the line as running south west across the Wadi Qor through Sudd Mujazah, where Your Highness has a small tribal post, to Nejd al Raha and Umm al Dakkain, on the ridge dividing the Wadi Hatta from the Wadi Qor, which marks the limit of Your Highness's agreed frontier with Shaikh Rashid bin Said of Dubai. Your Highness claims that from Aswad the line runs to Umm al Ghaf in the Wadi Qor and thence to Al Mujazah, but since this is hotly disputed by the Dahamanah of Nusilah, I find it impossible to make a definite recommendation here. At all events, the line running from Qurn Sulaiman . must include in Sultanate territory the wall immediately behind the Aswad Customs Post. The small stretch between this point and Al Mujazah must remain undefined for the present.
