CONFIDENTIAL
Foreign and Commonwealth Office
London S.W.1
2 August, 1973
We have heard that Shaikh Zaid, President of the
United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, is likely
to pay a private visit to Britain from about 12 to 21
September.
When Shaikh Zaid came to London last year, he had
talks with both the Prime Minister and the Foreign and
Commonwealth Secretary and was entertained to lunch by
the Prime Minister at Chequers and by the Foreign and
Commonwealth Secretary at Admiralty House. Sir Alec
will again have talks with Shaikh Zaid and may again
entertain him to lunch. We should be grateful if the
Prime Minister could also receive Shaikh Zaid, if he
visits London as expected during September. If the
Prime Minister wished to offer him hospitality during his
visit, I am sure this would be greatly appreciated by
Shaikh Zaid, although I realise that it will be a busy
period for the Prime Minister.
