Translation of a letter No: 200/7/36/3392/B of29/11/1387 from H.E. Sayyid Umar Saqqaf, Under-Secretaryof the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs to. Mr. Craig,Chargé d'Affaires at the British Embassy at Jedda Excellency, After greetings. With reference to the letter of His Excellencythe Ambassador dated 30th of December, 1967, in whichhe referred to the British Embassy's Note No: 779of the 21st of December, 1965, which referred to theresponsibility of the British Government for conductingthe foreign affairs of the States of Qatar and Abu Dhabi;and which said that the British Government could notaccept or regard as effective the agreement then recentlysigned between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Qatarinsofar as that Agreement envisaged any boundary betweenSaudi Arabia and Qatar to the east of any part of theline which was defined in 1955 by the British Governmentas the boundary between Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi, I inform Your Excellency of the following: - 1. Saudi Arabia does not recognise at all that thereis any border between Abu Dhabi and Qatar because thesetwo countries are separated by a large area of Sauditerritory which extends from Khor-al-odeid to the villageof Al-Mughayra on the coast of the Arabian Gulf. 2. The Border drawn and agreed upon by Saudi Arabiaand Qatar in the Agreement of 11 Sha'ban 1385 is in ourview the basis for the negotiations which will be concludedat the meeting to be held between Saudi and Qatari officialsto define the border between Saudi Arabia and Qatar.Saudi Arabia therefore cannot listen to, or take intoconsideration, any modifications to the border whichconflict with that.
