- 2 - 5. In 1885 the Shaikh of Qatar again announced his intentionof occupying Odaid, saying he had been directed to do so bythe Turkish Government. The British Government both forbadethe Shaikh to do any such thing and sent a protest to the Manad Turkish Government, which denied having given the alleged 2.21 par direction to the Shaikh. 6. In 1888 the Shaikh of Qatar was interviewed at Doha bythe Political Resident when he said that "his object is to settle at Odaid, and that he would give a guarantee that no disturbance shall take place at sea". The Resident told him that in accordance with the approval of the BritishGovernment, Oda id belongs to the Chief of Aboothabec; and it was impossible for him to settle there.7. In 1927 the Shaikh of Abu Dhabi, Shaikh Sagr, in a letter to the Political Resident, claimed sovereignty over Odaid Tidlinp.29.peara and the islands depending on it as well as over Basiriyaisland, Ghagha island and its dependent islands and Dayyinah and its dependent islands.8. The Foreign Secretary to the Government of India in hisdespatch No. F. 189-1/33 of January 31, 1934, to the IndiaOffice with reference to the southern boundary of Qatarexpressed the Government of India's view that in 1903 it washeld that "from and inclusive of Khor al odaid southward thecoast belongs to the Trucial Chiefs, vide paragraph 3 of theletter from the Government of India in the Foreign Departmentto His Excellency the Commander-in-Chief, Naval Forces, EastIndies Station, No.1209-E dated 5th June, 1903...... TheGovernment of India are of opinion that from Sakak wells theline runs eastward by south to the southern end of the Nagiyan sandhills on the north side of the entrance to Knor el Odeid as described in the Gazetteor".
